Can a father relinquish his right in the state of NM to avoid paying child support?

Once paternity has been proven, a father-or mother-is legally bound to provide child support to the custodial parent. Even if you are not a part of the child's life, you are still bound by the law. Here is an article that explains child support: a href="http://www.slaterkennon.com/articles/child-support-and-you/" rel="nofollow"http://www.slaterkennon.com/articles/chi…/a It actually has nothing to do with your presence in the child's life, that is something that is determined by the court. Think about it, would there be anyone in jail for not paying back child support if those people could just decide to opt out of paying? The only way to relinquish your right is if your child is legally adopted by the mother's partner and she asks you to relinquish rights.
