Are Christians more likely to be alcoholics? (or vice versa?)?
I don't give up my self-control because I'm an alcoholic. I just don't bend my elbow and pour it down my throat. As far as God goes, I never got drunk enough not to believe in God. Do I miss it? Hell, no. You might as well ask me if I miss having the flu. I don't find myself powerless at all. They teach you to believe that when you first come in, but that's just because when you first try to stop drinking, you're a little crazy. A power that is greater than myself helps me all the time, whether I believe it or not, or like it or not. I call it God. That stands for Good Orderly Direction. I've always been a Christian. But that depends on your definitions of Christianity. I don't believe in 'otherness'. In the beginning, God, leaves nothing but God. God thinks, and becomes the thing He thinks about. The Carpenter said 'The Kingdom of heaven is within you'. So what we're looking for, we're looking with. Don't be so quick to make assumptions, my friend. Take care.
