Do nuns relinquish their salary they earn in their ordinary lives?

Can nuns keep their salary they earn if they work (as a teacher, nun, social worker or whatever)? If they can't who then keeps their salary? Who pays them? If they work, does their convent still pay them? Do they have extra money on the side to do things like go to the movies or out to dinner or on vacation?
