Driving from Wayne, NJ to Central Park, NYC?

I have a wedding to go to in Central Park, NYC. It starts at 8 PM and doesn't get out until 2 AM. I will be traveling to the wedding from Wayne, NJ and will be returning to Wayne after the wedding gets out. Would I be better off with public transportation or should I drive? If I do go with public transportation, how safe is it around 2 AM? As someone who's not from the area, I feel like I'll really stick out wearing a suit at 2 in the morning, but I could be wrong.
